Every year, Collegiate ABCs partners with a limited number of schools. Whether your university funds the project, an alumni partner backs it, or your community rallies pre-orders, we handle the writing, illustration, design, and production. From there, you’ll play an active role in bringing the book to your community through local sales, alumni outreach, and campus events.

School-Funded Edition

The institution invests in a book using advancement or licensing budgets. You get a campus-specific story perfect for family and community engagement and special programs. In return, a portion of every book sold goes directly back to you to help recoup your investment and to your university as ongoing revenue. After launch, your team helps drive local sales and keeps the book in front of your community.

How a Community Campaign Works

Tell us about your school and your network. We review and build a custom campaign page for your community.

Share with your community

You get a shareable link to post to alumni groups, class pages, parent groups, and group chats. Supporters pre-order at a founding-supporter price.

STEP 3

Hit 500 pre-orders in 90 days

Reach the goal and the book goes into production. Supporters are notified and receive their copy within roughly four months.

STEP 4

Strong campaigns extend

Reach at least 300 pre-orders by day 90 and the campaign automatically extends once for 30 more days.

STEP 5

No goal, no risk

If the campaign does not reach 500, every supporter is refunded in full, automatically.

What does “funding” a book actually mean?
When a university or partner funds a Collegiate ABCs custom edition, they’re covering project and production costs so we can bring that book to market faster. Think of it like underwriting a campus initiative. Your support makes it possible, your name is associated with it, but the book itself remains part of the Collegiate ABCs catalog. In return, a portion of every book sold goes directly back to you to help recoup your investment and to your university as ongoing revenue.
What’s expected of me beyond the financial investment?
While we handle the creative side, writing, illustration, design, and production, you’ll be the local champion for your book. That means building relationships with campus bookstores and local retailers, connecting with alumni groups, attending events, and managing local inventory. We’ll walk you through everything and check in regularly to make sure you’re set up for success.
How fast can we have a finished book?
Once your project is green-lit, we can have a press-ready book in as little as 6 weeks. Funded projects are prioritized on our production calendar, so you launch sooner than unsponsored titles still in our pipeline.
Who owns the book after it’s created?
Collegiate ABCs retains all publishing, distribution, and intellectual property rights to the work. Your institution or partner receives free copies for distribution and naming recognition, but the book remains part of our catalog and series.
How does the revenue share work?
A portion of every book sold, whether through local stores, online, or at events, goes directly back to you and your university. That means your Collegiate ABCs book isn’t just a keepsake, it’s an ongoing source of income for you and revenue for your institution. The more copies that sell, the more everyone benefits. It’s a built-in return on your investment that continues long after the initial print run.
Do we need to provide illustrations or content?
Nope! Our process is fully turnkey. We handle the writing, illustration, design, and production support. You just need to tell us about your school traditions, landmarks, and what makes your campus special. We take it from there.
Can I use your approach for my own community book?
Yes, and we get this question a lot. Collegiate ABCs is dedicated to creating university campus books, so if that is what you have in mind, we would love to make it together. For community books in any other space (a town, school, neighborhood, organization, or family), our Community Book Playbook shares the same process we use in a step-by-step format you can run with. It covers planning, writing, illustration sourcing, production, and local sales. We cannot wait to see what you make.

About the Community-Funded Edition

When am I charged for a pre-order?
You are charged at order time. Those funds go directly toward the print run. If the campaign does not reach 500 pre-orders, you are refunded in full, automatically.
What happens if we do not reach 500 in 90 days?
If the campaign hits at least 300 pre-orders by day 90, it automatically extends once for 30 more days. If 500 is still not reached after that, the campaign closes and every supporter is refunded in full.
How long until I get my book if the campaign succeeds?
Roughly four months from when the campaign closes. Note that the close can be as late as day 120 if the campaign earns the 30-day extension.
What does the organizer get for running a campaign?
If the campaign hits its goal, the organizer is recognized as Community Champion, featured on the website, and receives free copies. There is no payment and no upfront cost to the organizer.
How is this different from the funded editions?
The School-Funded and Partner-Funded editions have one party covering the upfront costs in exchange for a revenue share. The Community-Funded edition is funded collectively by pre-orders, and the organizer earns recognition rather than a revenue share.
Why 500 pre-orders?
500 is the threshold where a print run is economically viable. Below that, the per-book economics do not work.
